Pop-Up Campers For Your Motorcycle
It’s been a long winter but warmer weather is on the way and my wife and I can’t wait to get on our motorcycles and get some camping in. This year we decided that the sleeping bags of our youth should be a thing of the past and it was time we camped in a little more comfort with a motorcycle pop-up tent trailer. And because we want to be ready to pack up and go as soon as the weather cooperates, I did my research ahead of time to pick the best camper for us from the motorcycle camping trailers available now. One thing I can say is that it’s a great time to get a camper for your motorcycle. They’re never been better, more reasonable, easier to assemble or more comfortable than they are now.
The first thing I did was make a list of the amenities we wanted as well as those we needed from a camper. We wanted it to be lightweight enough for my Yamaha FZ6R to pull effortlessly, and for the tent to be easy to set up after a long day on the road. We wanted it to be comfortable – that’s the whole point of leaving the sleeping bags at home. We wanted screened windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. And finally, we wanted a little storage space too. It was what I found beyond those basics that amazed me.
I didn’t know you could get a camping trailer that had a king size bed, or a two burner cooking unit, and an ice chest! This was beyond not “roughing it.” We were getting into hotel room with mini-bar comfort here! We could also choose a shell that matched our bikes or an add-on screen room. If you’re looking for amenities like these, check out Roadman Campers, Time Out Trailers, and Lees-ure Lite Trailers. Lite Tent Campers have lots of add-ons available for comfort and color options in a lightweight, sturdy design. The Easy Camper and Timeout Camper trailers feature a low profile, have an optional air conditioner stand, and a three minute set up time. Kwik Kamp motorcycle camping trailers can be a little hard to find as they get snapped up on the secondary market pretty fast.
We finally decided to balance comfort and budget and ordered an Excel Lees-ure Lite, partly based on the glowing testimonials these campers seem to get and on the accessories available, including an add-on screen room. I can’t wait for it to get here so we can hook up the trailer hitch, get on the open road, and head out to whatever destination we decide to set our sights on.
